Exciting New Partnership to Expand West Coast Swing in the Greater Boston Area

At Ignis Arts Ballroom Studio, we are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Boston Westie, aimed at expanding the vibrant West Coast Swing (WCS) community in Greater Boston. This collaboration is grounded in our shared vision of creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for dancers of all levels, with a special focus on beginners and advanced beginners. Through accessible lessons, fun social dances, and unique learning opportunities, we’re excited to help contribute to the thriving community of West Coast Swing dancers in our area and introduce even more people to the joy of this dynamic dance style. Our first event will be held on January 24th - 25th. More information can be found here.

A Partnership Built on Shared Values

At Ignis Arts, we’ve always believed in the power of dance to inspire creativity, build confidence, and connect adults. That’s why we’re so excited to be teaming up with Boston Westie. Boston Westie has long been a cornerstone of the Greater Boston westie community, bringing together dancers from all backgrounds to share the fun of West Coast Swing. Their monthly social dances have become a favorite among local dancers, creating a space where people can come together, learn, and have fun, regardless of their experience level.

Our approach at Ignis Arts is all about helping dancers grow in confidence and find joy in movement. Our studio’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that dance should be accessible to everyone. We work with our students to develop a deep understanding of dance technique, while also encouraging students to find fun, joy, and relaxation through dance. That’s why this partnership feels like such a natural fit. Together, we will create a space where beginners can feel supported as they take their first (triple) steps, and where experienced dancers can refine their skills and explore new techniques.

What We’re Offering: Inclusive Lessons and Fun Social Dances

Through this collaboration, we’re excited to offer a range of activities designed to support dancers of all levels. Whether you're stepping onto the floor for the first time or you're looking to take your West Coast Swing to the next level, we’ve got something for you.

Together, we’re providing accessible lessons, engaging social dances, and opportunities to learn directly from local and international professionals through workshops, intensives, and private lessons. This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting the vibrant Boston dance community by offering both educational and social dance experiences. We aim to create a space where dancers of all levels can improve their skills, enjoy dancing with others, and learn from some of the best in the industry. It also serves to support the dedicated artists, instructors, and event organizers who have worked tirelessly to keep social dancing thriving in the area. Ultimately, this collaboration is about fostering growth, building lasting connections, and contributing to the continued success of the Boston dance scene.

New to West Coast Swing?

West Coast Swing (WCS) is a partner dance that originated in Southern California. It evolved from the Lindy Hop and is characterized by “an elastic look that results from its extension-compression technique of partner connection and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor”. WCS is highly adaptable and can be danced to a wide variety of music genres, including swing, blues, contemporary, pop, and even rock. WCS also has a fun emphasis on musicality and improvisation, with dancers often interpreting the music in real time and adjusting their movements accordingly.

WCS is also known for being accessible to all levels of dancers, from beginners to advanced. It features basic steps and patterns that are easy to pick up, yet also provides ample room for creativity and growth as dancers progress. It’s a popular dance at social events, as it’s flexible and can be danced with anyone, regardless of skill level. Additionally, our area features a variety of opportunities from pure social dancing to competitive events (like Countdown Swing, coming up over the New Year holiday!)

Join Us on the Dance Floor!

Whether you’re new to West Coast Swing or have been dancing for a while, we invite you to join us as we expand this incredible community. Our upcoming lessons, workshops, and social dances will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, refine your skills, and experience the joy of dancing with others.

Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events. Together, we can continue to grow the West Coast Swing community in Greater Boston and beyond! Let’s dance!
